Chlorophytum Comosum

February 26, 2009

Commonly known as the spider plant, this plant makes an excellent houseplant for the uneducated gardener. It’s tolerant of neglect and can survive well evenĀ  in very poor conditions. They’re even known to reduce pollution getting rid of those nasty carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and nitrogen gases in the air. They’re a bit like the church, but not for these factors even though they may be true too, but for how they reproduce, how they plant other Cholorophytums Comosums!

Having a laugh with theology

February 20, 2009

For the most part theology and doctrine are considered to be dry, boring and even irrelevant. This view of both theology and doctrine has no doubt been helped by the stuffy academics who excel in the fields.

It’s unlikely then that a website, Theology Network, aimed at academic (i.e. students, there’s a laugh for you staright away) folk would prove to be very popular or indeed very fun. However I recently stumbled across a section of the afore mentioned website which has had my sides tickled no end. It’s the Merrie Theolgiane. Posts of particular ammusment to me have been the “Bibles worth burning” and “Indulging a laugh.

Check it out, feel free to reproduce your favourite quotes in the comments of this post.

Free Bangor (In a nut shell)

February 18, 2009

91868506_5d2163f5b7Thanks for all your prayers and support last week as the Bangor Christian University concentrated it’s efforts to see Christ’s name exalted amongst their student population.

It was also of great personal encouragement to me, as the ‘mission week speaker’, to know that so many brothers and sisters were petitioning our God.

I thought I’d repay that generosity by giving you all a quick round up/highlights reel and prayer points to continue to support BUCU in their follow up and continued witness.

A Bus, a Bible Verse, a Facebook Group, and a Bible Translation

February 11, 2009

I’m sure we’re all well aware of these buses that have been carrying around Atheist propaganda. Big deal! It gets people thinking about God, especially with the “probably”. In answer, the Trinitarian Bible Society have begun a campaign to put the verse “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God” (Psalm 53:1). I discovered this first on Biblog this morning, and then discovered I’d had an invite on Facebook to a group that supports the campaign.

Wives [Submit]?

February 6, 2009

I’ve recently done a bit of reading about women in ministry (as some of you will know from my post on Saint Jonny). In the book I read, not only was the subject of women in ministry discussed from both sides, but also the issues over whether wives are to submit amongst other women and men issues, such as use of the word, “head” which I may or may not cover another time. Since reading that book and seeing both sides, I’ve had a couple of thoughts as I’ve been reading so now I’m going to share them with you! And here’s a disclaimer: this is not exhaustive, I can’t cover every issue

Is Jesus the rose of Sharon?

February 5, 2009

One of my favorite hymns is ‘Iesu, Iesu, rwyt ti’n ddigon’ (Jesus, Jesus, all sufficient) which has the rousing chorus in the secondĀ  verse:

‘Rose of Sharon, ROSE OF SHARON!’ (you end up singing with gusto)

I have always felt this was a lovely way of talking about Jesus. As a rose is the most beautiful flower and very precious. Also, the analogy comes from the Song of Solomon which in itself is a lovely picture of the love and intimacy between the church and Christ.

However, there is a problem.
